Sikkim Government College, Rhenock a NAAC – Accredited college is one of the institutions of learning and education affiliated under Sikkim University, a central university established by an act of parliament of India 2007. It was established in the year 2004, occupying a total area of 32.67 acres amidst the serenity and green vegetation of the hills in Rhenock, a small town in the East district of Sikkim by the state government with the vision to provide quality education and especially to uplift the deprived section of society. The College functioned in rented buildings till 2012 and was shifted to the present campus in Rhenock, Rungdung in the year 2012. Being the first and only higher education institution of the Pakyong district (now, as the East is divided into two districts) of Sikkim, it aims at the all-round development of every individual student. Since its establishment, the institution has been quenching the intellectual thirst and providing quality education to hundreds of students belonging to diverse backgrounds. Students’ performance every year reflects the quality of education being imparted in the institution, which strives to fulfil the demands of modern times, and the specific needs of the society. The institution gives equal emphasis to curricular and co-curricular activities, to develop physically, rationally, spiritually and emotionally sound personalities through teaching, sports, NSS, and NCC, along with cultural and academic activities.
The enrolment of College has been increasing year after year since its inception and in the last completed academic year, the College had 923 students pursuing several undergraduate degrees with honours courses across all three undergraduate programmes, B.A., B.Sc. and B.Com. The College currently comprises 15 (fifteen) Departments, offering 13 (thirteen) undergraduate courses including B. Sc. Computer Science, B.A, B. Sc. Psychology and B. Sc. Statistics. In addition to these, the College with financial support from RUSA offered various add- on short-term courses during the last five years.
